Carrie Thorson, 103, of Mandan, died December 31, 2013 at Sanford Hospital in Bismarck.
Funeral Services will be held 10:00 A.M. Saturday, January 4th, 2014 at First Lutheran Church in Mandan with Pastor Christina Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Mandan Union Cemetery.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. Friday at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home and will continue Saturday, one hour prior to time of service at the church.
Carrie was born August 15, 1910 in Philbrook, MN to William & Elnora (Hines) Warden. At the age of four, she moved with her parents to Pillager, MN where she attended school. At age ten, she moved to Breien, ND to live with her foster parents. On May 24, 1930 she was united in marriage to Eddie Cornish and their first and only child, Violet, was born in 1931. After Violet was born, they moved to a farm ten miles north of Mandan, ND on the Missouri River. In 1941, they moved into Mandan. Carrie worked as a waitress at the Northern Pacific Restaurant in Mandan for 15 years. Her husband Eddie passed away on Feb. 6, 1955. In February 1956, Carrie married Melvin Thorson. They moved to Glendive, MT in April 1960 where they lived for many years. Melvin passed away on April 26, 1995. She continued to make her home in Glendive until moving to Mandan in 2005. Carrie was a member of First Lutheran Church of Mandan. She enjoyed quilting, making over 110 quilts for the Veterans Home in Glendive and crocheted many winter caps for friends and family.
She is survived by four step-daughters, Martha Thorson Bruen of Seattle, WA, Blanche Thorson Geier of Mandan, Marietta Thorson Volk of Mandan, & Ruth Thorson (Bruce) Hinkel of Mandan; two sisters, Mary Lou Tracy of Bloomington, MN & Irene Britton of Eveleth, MN; two brothers, Eddie Warden & Clifford (Patricia) Warden, both of Everett, WA; 15 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren, 10 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins.
Carrie was preceded in death by her parents, daughter (Violet Cornish Dorr), two husbands (Eddie and Melvin), one half-sister (Cecile Rundel LaCassco), three brothers (Glen, George, & Elmer Warden), two infant granddaughters, one infant great-great grandson, and three sons-in-law.
