Carole Olin

Carole Olin, 80, of New Salem, passed away Sunday December 18th at Prospera Skilled Nursing Facility in Mandan.  Services will be held on Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 11:00 AM at Sims Lutheran Church with Rev. Bill Dodd officiating.  Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at the Sims Cemetery in the Spring.

Carole Jane Olin was born November 3, 1942, in Mott, ND to Reiny and Julia (Schaff) Ottmar.  Carole graduated high school in Mott before attending college at Dickinson State College to get her teaching degree.  She spent many years teaching in McLaughlin, SD and Taylor, ND, and substitute teaching in the New Salem area.

Carole met Ray Olin on October 31, 1973, and they were married 3 months later on December 31, 1973.  Into this marriage they brought their children Shawn Jacobs and Michael Kennedy and made their home on the family homestead in Sims, ND.  Together they were blessed with two more children, Toby and Josh.

Carole spent many years working alongside her husband in the office of Rolin Manufacturing.  When she was home, she was never sitting still.  She was always sewing, cooking, canning, or making wonderful memories with her grandchildren reading books and making homemade bread and cheese buttons.  Whenever you came to her house you would always be met with a feast.

While her children were growing up, Carole was very active in the church community.  She taught Sunday School, vacation bible school and helped with many Christmas programs.

Carole had many challenges over the last two years and her husband was always by her side.  Nothing would bring a smile quicker to her face than when she would see her grandchildren and family.  She will be deeply missed.

Carole was preceded in death by her parents, Reiney and Julia Ottmar and son Josh Olin.

Carole is survived by her husband of 49 years Ray; sons Michael (Miyuki) Kennedy of Germany; Shawn (Vicki) Jacobs of Mandan; Toby (Kimberly) Olin of New Salem; grandchildren Lisa Stanton (Tim); Janet Stanton; Joshua, Grace, Isaac and Abigail Olin; and 5 great grandchildren, Joshua David, Charles and Linda Coggins, Saddie and Maggie Johnson; Brothers Dale (Marlene) Ottmar, Sioux Falls, SD; Myron Ottmar Elk River, MN; sister-in-law LoAnn Olin and many nieces and nephews
