Calvin was born July 4, 1929 in Bluegrass, ND to Heinrich and Anna (Bauer) Bauer. He was raised on the family farm and attended a rural school near Bluegrass through the 8th grade. Drafted in to the Army during the Korean War, Calvin served at Eielson Air Force Base and Elmendorf Air Force Base, both in Alaska, from 1951 to 1953. After Calvin's discharge from the Army, he attended North Dakota State College of Science in Wahpeton. His career as a plumber started in Washburn, ND and he owned ABC Plumbing and later ABC Pump Repair in New Salem. It was at this time that he met Audrey Krueger through his sister, Delores. Calvin and Audrey were married on August 26, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Salem. They had three children, Vicky, Verdean, and Kevin.

Calvin was a resident of New Salem most of his life. In September of this year he moved to the North Dakota Veterans Home in Lisbon, ND. He was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, the New Salem American Legion, and New Salem Lion's Club. Calvin was a past member of the New Salem Park Board, New Salem Fire Dept., and New Salem Sportsmen Club. Following his retirement from the plumbing business, he continued to work for the city of New Salem until April of 2016.

Surviving include his son, Kevin (Holly) Bauer, Moorhead, MN; granddaughter, Joelle; two brothers, Harold (Shirley) Bauer, New Salem and Erhardt (Anita) Bauer, Portland, OR; sister, Delores (Wilbert) Kunz, New Salem; sister-in-law, Nancy Krueger, Anderson, CA; and sister-in-law, Laura Opp, New Salem. He will also be missed by his extended family and friends.

This self-proclaimed "Fourth of July Firecracker" expressed that he was ready to join his wife, Audrey, and daughters, Vicky and Verdean in Heaven. Calvin was also preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Ervin, Victor, and Donald; and sister, Verna Dockter.

The family would like to express gratitude for the kindness shown to Calvin throughout the years in New Salem especially following Audrey's death in 2015. Even though he resided at the ND Veterans Home for a short time, he considered the staff and residents his friends as well.
