Bernice Dorthea Guenther Achtenberg 81, Mandan, went to her heavenly home on August 14, 2014 at St. Vincent's Care Center, Bismarck.
Visitation with family will be held on Friday, August 22 from 6:00pm-7:30pm at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, followed by a Memorial Service at 7:30 pm with Pastor Lee Herberg officiating. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Bernice was born April 7, 1933 to Christian and Wilma (Haas) Guenther north of New Leipzig. She was united in marriage to William "Tiny" Achtenberg on November 7, 1954. They resided on a farmstead north of New Leipzig until the summer of 1961 when they moved to Mandan where they lived for 41 years. In August of 2002 Bernice & Tiny moved to St. Vincent’s Care Center.
Bernice will be deeply missed by her daughter, Jocelyn (Bill) Tescher, Mandan; two sons, Greg (Mary) Achtenberg, Mandan and Tiff (Lori) Achtenberg, Olathe, KS; 7 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Della Krein, Sacramento, CA, Marlys Berg, Mandan, and Alice Fuerstenberg, Maple Grove, MN; and 1 brother, Curtis Guenther, Wilton.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William, in February 2003; sisters, Edna Klein and Delores Hintz; and brothers, Arvin and Rueben Guenther.
