Archie E Giese, 93, New Salem, passed away December 3, 2013 at Elm Crest Manor Nursing Home, New Salem.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 7, 2013 at Salem United Church of Christ, New Salem. Cremation has taken place and burial will be at a later date in Bethel Cemetery, rural New Salem. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. on Saturday at Elm Crest Manor and continue one hour prior to the service at the church.
Archie was born October 6, 1920, in rural New Salem to Philip and Erma (Krutzner) Giese. He was raised on the family farm south of New Salem and educated in a one room country school near the farm. He began farming with his parents after completing his formal education at 8th grade but never stopped educating himself.
On June 16, 1946, he married Hildegard Albrecht at Zion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Judson. They farmed and ranched south of New Salem on the family farm, where they raised three sons, Glenn, Craig, and Bryan. They retired from farming and moved to Flasher in 2001.
Archie was a dedicated father and a friend to many. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and was often called upon to assist with welding and equipment repairs or to help with annual livestock roundups when asked by a neighbor. He was a member of Bethel United Church of Christ, Flasher Lions Club, and Flasher Historical Society. Archie served many years on Boards of Directors of Morton County Farmers Union, Mor-Gran-Sou Electric Cooperative, New Salem Credit Union, Missouri West Water Users, and Bethel Church Consistory.
Hildegard passed away August 3, 2003 after 57 years of marriage. Archie and Hildegard's oldest son, Glenn, passed away July 23, 2011. Archie is survived by his sons and daughters-in law, Craig and Michele, Bismarck and Bryan and Eileen, Mandan; five grandchildren, Eric and Tina Giese, Peoria, AZ, Shawn Giese, Scottsdale, AZ, Chris and Lisa Giese, Fargo, Rachelle and Brad Putnam, Stillwater, MN and Kate and Justin Brown, Bismarck; seven great-grandchildren, Athena and Quentin Brown, Ryan, Reese, and Reid Giese, and Thomas and Anna Putnam; as well as sisters-in-law, Laverne Giese Hugg, Mesa, AZ and Verna Giese, New Salem; and brother and sister-in-law, Clifford and Peggy Giese, Alexandria, MN.
He was proceeded in death by his wife Hildegard; parents, Philip and Erma Giese; son, Glenn; brothers, Clarence and Theodore; and granddaughter Greta.
In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to Bethel Church Preservation Fund, Elm Crest Manor Nursing Home in New Salem, Lions Eye Bank of North Dakota, or to the charity of the giver's choice.
