Rev Alvin Hagerott, 81, Center, died April 14, 2021 at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM on Monday, April 19, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Brethren Church, 2400 E Ave A, Bismarck, ND, with Rev. Keith Wolderich officiating. Cremation has taken place and the family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
Rev. Alvin Hagerott was born January 6, 1940 and adopted by Albert and Mary (Lueneburg) Hagerott in September 1943. Alvin graduated from Center High School in 1958 and then worked for a rancher for one year after high school.
Alvin attended Concordia College and graduated from Dickinson College in 1965. He was employed as a social worker for Pembina County and lived in Cavalier, ND where he met and married Diane Fleming on December 10, 1967. Their son, James, was born into their family in November 1968. Alvin entered Lutheran Brethren Seminary in Fergus Falls, MN in August 1974. Their son, Justin, was born in January 1976. Alvin graduated from Seminary with a Master of Divinity degree and was ordained in the Lutheran Brethren Church. He was a kind, compassionate, and selfless servant of God who loved and cared for everyone he met.
He pastored churches in Washington, Minnesota, and North Dakota and served as a chaplain at Medcenter One Hospital in Bismarck, Lutheran Home of the Good Shepherd in New Rockford, and at Medcenter One Hospice in Bismarck.
Alvin was a loving and devoted husband, father, and papa (as his grandchildren called him). He enjoyed fishing, curling, playing Uno with his family, and Whist with his uncles and sons. Alvin was happiest at the family farm near Center. He loved nature and all God’s creatures. He was especially adept at recognizing local bird species.
He entered Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center in 2014 due to Alzheimer’s. In spite of the circumstances, the Lord blessed Alvin and allowed him to recall scriptures and continue to serve with his minister’s heart to his fellow residents and to the staff.
Alvin is survived by his wife, Diane; sons, Jim (Deb) and Justin (Dawna); and grandchildren, Allison Cardenas (Joseph), Austin, Anderson, and Alexander.
He was preceded in death by his parents and many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
