Alice Schmidt, 86, Mandan, passed away on May 28, 2015 at Sanford off Collins Continuing Care Center in Mandan.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 1, 2015 at 2:30 pm at First Lutheran Church in Mandan, with the Rev. Lee Herberg officiating. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 31, 2015 at Buehler-Larson Funeral Home, Mandan, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm and one hour before the service at the church on Monday. Burial will be at Mandan Union Cemetery.
Alice was born on July 16, 1928 to Phillip and Estella Sardeson in Freda, ND. She attended grades one through eight at the country school in Freda, ND. Alice lived with and worked for Dr. Wheeler and his wife to earn her room and board while attending Mandan High School. Upon graduation, she went to work as a secretary for Purity Dairy in Mandan. Alice married Raymond Schmidt in 1950 in Mandan. Together they had six children.
Alice became a stay at home mom when her children were born. After they were grown, she pursued her passion in life, cooking! Alice worked at Heartview as a cook for several years. From there, she went on to cook for the patients and employees at Mandan Hospital, with her culinary skills. For many years, Alice cooked at the River Ridge Restaurant in Mandan. Anytime that she could cook you a meal or bake some goodies, Alice was her happiest.
In her spare time, Alice enjoyed gardening and playing cards. Many an intense game of bridge and pinochle were held around her kitchen table. Alice was always ready to help watch her grandkids and great-grandkids. Her face instantly lit up whenever she saw her three great-grandsons. Even towards the end of her life journey, they could make her smile when no one else could!
Alice will be greatly missed by her daughter, Paulette Senger of Bismarck; five sons, Dennis (Kathy) Schmidt of Lakeville, MN, Darryl ( Mary) Schmidt of Bismarck, Dean (Belinda) Schmidt of Alexandria, MN, Brian Schmidt of New York City, NY and Bradley Schmidt of Pittsburgh, PA; six grandchildren, Jessica (Seth), Erin (Hans), Evan (Amy), Nyla (Justin), Talia (Matthew) and Jennifer (Craig); her three very special great-grandsons, Kadon, Jaxon and Jordan; five sisters, Ethel Tishmack, Shirley (Herman) Schafer, Dorothy Kobs, Diane Heidrich and Sally Ritz; and her very special friend, Gladys Reynolds of Mandan, who was always there for our mom.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Phillip and Estella Sardeson; three brothers, Raymond Sardeson, Delbert Sardeson and Phillip Sardeson; and one sister, Myra Grimm.
