William P. (Bill) Leingang, 83, Mandan, died June 13, 2012 at the Medcenter One Mandan Living Center.

Bill was born July 29, 1928 in St. Anthony to Peter H. and Rose (Leingang) Leingang. He attended school in St. Anthony. On November 20, 1950 he married Viola Doll in Fallon and they farmed near St. Anthony until 1954 when they moved to Mandan. For most of his working life, Bill was the Club Manager at the Knights of Columbus in Mandan and also worked at Blue Ribbon Hatchery, was a rural mail carrier, and worked for Buehler-Larson Funeral Home. A talented musician, he played drums in the Golden Group Band as well as other bands in the area, and he loved to dance, especially the polka. He was a founding member of the St. Anthony Verein (over 60 years) and a member of the Knights of Columbus, Moose Lodge, Elks Lodge, Eagles Club, Musicians Association and (former) St. Peter and Paul Verein. While living at the Mandan Living Center, in addition to playing the drums in a weekly jam session, he also enjoyed delivering mail to the residents. Fishing, playing cards, and celebrating special occasions with his family brought him great pleasure.
Bill will be remembered as a fun loving and kind-hearted man with a strong work ethic. Above all, Bill loved his family and leaves many fond memories they will always treasure.
Blessed to have shared his life are six children, Lydia MacKenzie, Richmond, MN, Linda (Dennis) Urlacher, Mandan, Alvin (Robben) Leingang, Mandan, Louanne Leingang, Bismarck, Laureen Leingang, Houston, TX, and Alan Leingang, San Diego, CA; six grandchildren, Christopher (Jill) Bohl, Nathan (Alysha) Boie Bohl, Alecia (Chris) Pulver, Amber (Joe) Boykin, Brandon (Taylor) Leingang, and Heidi Leingang; eleven great grandchildren, Matthew, Caroline, and Olivia Bohl, Bridger and Autumn Pulver, Joemar and Mason Boykin, Hudson and Preston Boie Bohl, and Bennet and Afton Leingang; sisters, Hilda (Leo) Landeis, Bismarck and Shirley (Harry) Zander, Fargo; brother, Leo (Gladys) Leingang, Mandan; and special friends, Herman Nagel, Janel Leingang, and the staff at the Living Center.

I have great memories of my Uncle Bill and Aunt Viola, I remember every year as a child looking forward to going to the KC Hall for our family Christmas parties and Uncle Bill dressed as Santa Claus and wearing that scary mask! . I also remember going to wedding dances and Uncle Bill playing the drums in the band while we polka’d. Uncle Bill and Aunt Viola always made me feel welcome!
My condolances to everyone in the family,I am very sorry for your loss!
Sincerly Jodi Zander-Fargo
